...Castle Doornenburg remained inhabited until the 19th century. Then it fell into disrepair. In 1936, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Doornenburg established, and restored it in 1937. In 1941 the restoration was completed. At the end of the Second World War the castle was almost completely destroyed. It was long thought that it was hit by a German bomb. However, it proved to be hit by a British bombardment. The castle was rebuilt from 1947 to 1968...
...while entering the Castle I expected no excessive luxury, the rooms we entered rays simplicity and durability. The decoration consists of magnificent paintings of residents who have ever lived here. Notable is the beautiful natural light and characteristic in all the rooms of the castle. Beautiful by it's simplicity, are those little nooks. They are placed almost everywhere, created by the window and very narrow...
